Jack was born to Sharecropper parents looking for a better life for their children. Jack encountered how the family struggle to make ends meet. Despite the lack of it didn’t keep him from dreaming and wanting more. He started off cooking around six years of age.
He would attend a Baptist church in Chicago with the family. He was a busy body and would never sit still, and the only alternative was to send him downstairs to the kitchen where the ladies were preparing dinner. He watched the ladies cook and developed a love for cooking.
On one given Sunday one of the ladies showed him how to season chicken. The following Sunday they allowed Jack to season it and it came out perfect. His dad would be the person to cup up the fries. Jack watched on and began cutting fries at the age of nine and later learned how to cut up a whole chicken. Jack began frying chicken at the age of eleven.
Through trail an error Jack began cooking on the grill, hamburgers chicken wings and hotdogs. He became a pro at the age of sixteen.
He visioned one day he would have a food truck or restaurant. In 2022, Jack stepped out on faith, left his job, and pursued his dream of owning a food truck. He also tapped into the catering business. Jack credits his sauce as one of his greatest achievements after 25 years of perfecting it. He added to his logo “Sauce is Boss” is receiving rave reviews.
He started off cooking for friends and family. After years of entertaining and wetting the palates of others, he realized family enjoyed gathering at his house to eat. Never ceasing to amaze them they would have him to prepare a dish or two when the family came together.
Jack also gives credit to a gentleman that had a restaurant in Bellwood that influenced him. Jack said he made the best chicken and delivered it with his sauce that attracted him.
Just recently with the encouragement of a dear friend pushed him beyond limits, trusting God in the process, suggested he looked for a restaurant. He found this place and said I will build my house trusting the Father and give back to the community.
